Through the vision and work of two men in particular, Mr Geoff Henke AO and Mr Andrew Shelton, together with great support from VicUrban and the Victorian Government, our world class ice sports facility was established at the District Docklands precinct in 2010. ‘O’Brien Icehouse’ is now considered one of the leading facilities of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.
Since then, ‘the Icehouse’ has been the proud home of world-class training facilities for elite athletes and beginners alike. With the continued support of the Victorian Government, O’Brien Group Australia and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, O’Brien Icehouse has become and will continue to be the heart of ice sports and entertainment in Australia.
‘The Icehouse’ is the only dual-rink facility in Australia containing two Olympic sized ice skating rinks, stadium seating for 1,000 people, 2,300 pairs of skates in skate hire, rink-based sound and light systems, a specialist winter sports gym, café, bar and four function rooms.
